Last year we attened, Pre Nomsters, and we had an absolute blast. We hope who ever can make it, on either day, will enjoy themselves to the fullest. The way we see, for $19 it’s all you can drink rums all day.
So please as always, be safe, drink responsibly, and look us up!

Oh boy, it all started when I was chopping my huge celery stalk and I said to myself, I don’t think I can eat this all in a few days…so, time to throw it into a tuna salad! Only problem, I was missing lemon, relish or pickles, onions and some other ingredients. I also accidentally, without reading the cans, mixed tuna with canned chicken breast so right now I have a tuna-chicken salad. Still tasted great and so I wanted to share how to improvise while missing ingredients. I will also be slathering this on Arnold Honey Wheat Sandwich Thins, my fav for fiber and low carb.
“Make-do-without-a-few” Ingredients:
3 cans chunk light tuna
4 tablespoons Smart Balance Mayo
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Generous amounts of the following:
chopped celery
lemon pepper (when no lemons on hand!)
capers
dried minced onions (when no onions on hand!)
salt
parsley
Mix. Refrigerate for a few hours. Serve!

If you haven’t been to Tap42 yet then you’re missing out on not only good microbrew beer, but also decent service and simply OK food.
When the Broward New Times first reviewed Tap42 they praised the taps but hated the service and the food was mediocre. After reading this I perused other reviews; their comments were almost identical, which shouldn’t have surprised me. I mean their late night menu contained fries with gravy. The fries, might I add were soggy…(The other Nomster says “disco fries” are not any good anywhere except a good New Jersey-owned diner. In short, do not attempt.)
However all that is about to change. Six months after its grand opening the owners of Tap42 have fired their head chef and hired a new general manager. This new manager once headed up Houston’s in Miami, which was an excellent restaurant.
All we Nomsters will say is we look forward to a tastier and healthier menu, proper service, and we hope with all the change happening they don’t mess with what was working since opening - and that’s the beer! (Although beer specials are always appreciated!)

The New Times will be hosting its 15th Annual Beerfest this Saturday at Huizenga Plaza at Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are $30 but use the promo code PREVIOUS2 and get $5 off! The catch? The promo code expires tonight at midnight. So make use of this promo while you still can! Join us Nomsters as we sample 100+ local and international beers, listen to live bands (as well as watch the Miami Heat dancers!) and enjoy what is sure to be a beautiful Saturday night in Fort Lauderdale.

Before starting Little Nomster, we’ve been attending local festivals, and wine and liquor tastings all over South Florida. Some of these events are - wait for it - FREE! This free event, and others put on by great brands such as Macallan and Johnny Walker, was highly informative and believe it or not, makes you sip the cognac as directed in appreciation of the process in which it’s made. We will try to help you guys out and post upcoming events so you can sign up too!! Here are some shots of the Pre Nomsters at the Remy Martin Tasting in Miami.

We’d go into more details about the images, but to be honest it was such a long time ago, we don’t really remember much - which is not so bad. The one we do know about is the barrel was straight from Cognac, France and we got to sip the Cognac directly from the barrel. Of course the smell of the oaky barrel amplified the already woody notes of the cognac.
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, and everything Irish, I decided to hold off on posting this review till today, St. Patrick’s Day 2012! Go Irish!

It wasn’t a year ago when I was at Biddy Early at a going away party for a friend of mine. The scene was raucous and quiet and surreal all at the same time. The bar/restaurant had hints of Irish flare with dark overtones and televisions surrounding the bar and large wooden tables in the dining section. The place was never full of patrons but the food and beer were cheap. Fast forward one year later and things are much different in all aspects.
Biddy Early was bought out by McSorley’s, the Irish beach bar south of Sunrise Blvd. on A1A which had a renascence in the past two years transforming from local dive bar into a two story, roof sun deck, upscale lounge, and watering hole. Trust me when I say this, it sounds much better than described. I’m no journalist or investagative reporter, but I’m assuming the lack of food at McSorley’s brought on by only two real good Irish restaurants in the vicinity (Waxy O’Connors and Maguires Hill 16) brought about a serious decision to invest on buying Biddy Early’s location and expanding into a local restaurant business.
After months of renovation and hiring new staff, we now have Stout Irish Pub and this Thursday night was it’s grand opening. Much of the interior has stayed the same, however, a new coat of paint and some minor deconstruction goes a long way. The Irish murals have carried over along with new table tops, a refurbished bar, a well stocked and good selection of taps, and a new menu. This will take Stout into a forward direction.

On the night of the grand opening the staff were super friendly, the owners and managers of McSorley’s were out and about schmoozing and making new contacts. There weren’t any drink or food specials but one can hardly expect that from a new joint, however I’m sure that will change in time. The dark overtones were kept to keep in line with McSorley’s, with new lighting and high definition televisions in surplus around the bar and scattered through out the dinning area; Stout will no doubt make an excellent addition to any sports fanatic out there.

All in all, this Nomster highly recommends Stout Irish Pub to any fan of McSorley’s. Although I haven’t tried any items from the menu (that would be a post in the future), I have little reason to believe it won’t be well… Irish and great to eat with a large pint of Guinness.
Stout Irish Pub is located on 3419 North Andrews Ave in Oakland Park, Fl. More images of Stout are here [via] Nomster’s Picasa Web Albums.

One minute you read that high fructose corn syrup is making America fat. The next, you see a commercial in which happy people laugh at anyone who’d be foolish enough to think that corn could be bad for you.
