The Easy Way to Make a Rum Old Fashioned

Posted on Posted in Booze Tastings

Having a party and can’t think of thing to serve your guests? We got you, folks. Follow this recipe to make your very own Nomster approved Rum Old Fashioned.

  • 12 ounces of aged rum. In the video, we chose Cruzan Aged Dark Rum. It has a sweet oak flavor with very little bite.
  • 3 ounces of Light Agave Nectar. You can also substitute with 1.5 ounces of regular agave nectar or 3 ounces of simple syrup.
  • 9 ounces of water
  • 6 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • one orange

In a large mixing container, pour in your rum, water, and agave nectar. Throw in your dashes of the bitter. Keep in mind not to over do it as it can go south real fast. Stir everything with a large spoon until the agave nectar is completely mixed into the drink. Taste for flavor. If the drink is too strong keep adding small amounts of agave nectar until the cocktail is to your liking.

When everything is all settled use a funnel and pour into a large container with a screw-on top. We opted for a 1-liter growler style bottle. Peel a few orange peels with a knife as a garnish and you’re now to serve a Nomster approved rum old fashioned!

Enjoy and impress your friends. Remember this bottled cocktail will last indefinitely at your home bar.
