Last Tuesday we attended AIGA Miami‘s Drink & Draw at one of our favorite watering holes – Tap 42! The Drink & Draw event brought together local artists from South Florida for a beer drinking artistic activity. This activity was a blind tasting of several varieties of beers and sketch out the first things that come to mind. It didn’t matter what it was, or how it inspired you – it was pure freedom! The exercise brought us back to the art school days of just letting go and creating art from the heart. Of course, the beer was a plus! The beers ranged from light and refreshing lagers to dark and heavy stouts. These beer tastes had our creative juices flowing throughout the night. We enjoyed every single moment of it and surely hope that this event returns to our neighborhood.
Rogue Juniper Pale Ale (pencil drawing) – This juniper ale reminded me of the fall season on a farm. I tasted the autumn and fall colors on my palette and thought, what a tasty beer. I began drawing out a barn with a giant tree in front of it. Then I drew myself, cause I thought, what the hell?…
Ballast Point Sculpin IPA (marker and colored drawing) – This hoppy beer packed a punch! The bitters and pine flavors reminded me of skiing and chillin’ in the lodge after a long, cold day.
We had an excellent time sketching and coloring from our hearts. It was a good exercise in letting go and getting inspired by the beer itself and the emotions they elicited.
